2020 Oscars: Everything You Need to Know About the 92nd Academy Awards

By RADIO.COM Staff

A rundown of the Best Picture nominees at the 2020 Oscars tells a pretty clear story about the blockbusters that dominated theater screens this year.

This year's nominees include action-packed films like “The Irishman”, “1917”, “Joker”, and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” who led the awards season and at the box office, while other contenders like “Parasite” and “Jojo Rabbit” contain their fair share of fight scenes.

Fans will have to tune in on Sunday to find out if tranquil films like “Marriage Story”, “Little Women” or “Ford v. Ferrari” can compete. Viewers will also learn if Netflix can walk away with a ton of trophies (the streaming service snagged 24 nods this year), or if the Academy does recognize some unexpected winners.

Here’s how to watch the 2020 Academy Awards, and what to watch for on Sunday.

'Joker' Leads a Crowded Pack

Todd Phillips’ comic book film is the frontrunner in nominations with 11, including Best Picture and Lead Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. A few other films also show up in many categories. “The Irishman”, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, and “1917” all have 10 nominations and are all in the contest for Best Picture as well.

Speaking of Joaquin Phoenix

The actor is predicted to win the Best Actor award, after sweeping that category at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards. But he also has a habit of getting political in his acceptance speeches, calling out Hollywood for its lack of diversity and its inaction on climate change.

Netflix Is Set to Clean Up

Between “The Irishman”, “Marriage Story” and “Two Popes”, the streaming giant is looking strong at this year’s Oscars. The platform doesn’t have much competition, since its main competitor, Amazon Studios, which blows away the competition in TV, has a lone nominee among the films, the French “Les Miserables”.
