Patrick Corbin has agreed to a six-year contract with the Washington Nationals.

The deal, first reported by the Washington Post, is reportedly worth $140 million with deferrals

Corbin was the most coveted free-agent pitcher on the board. The 29-year-old left-hander also had been a top target for the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.

Corbin went 11-7 with a career-best 3.15 ERA and 246 strikeouts last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The two-time All-Star is 56-54 with a 3.91 ERA in six years with the Diamondbacks.

The Nationals now boast a formidable top of the pitching rotation with Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburgh and Corbin. It remains to be seen how the Corbin megadeal will influence the Nationals' attempts to retain big-ticket free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper .

The Yankees refused to offer Corbin more than five years, WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported. The Yankees are expected to turn their attention to Nathan Eovaldi and J.A. Happ.

In addition to Corbin, the Phillies have been linked to both Harper and Manny Machado, the top two free agents on the market. Some have speculated that Harper and Machado could fetch deals close to $300 million.

In terms of pitching, the Phillies reportedly will turn their attention to lefties Dallas Keuchel and J.A. Happ. The Phillies also have made overtures to the San Francisco Giants about a trade for ace Madison Bumgarner.
