Welcome back to Big Will Bets: Weekend Winners, and I have my top bowl game bets for you. Look, I know it’s hard to bet on the bowl games because of all of the different variables affecting each team. But, scared money doesn’t make money and I’ve found some wagers that we can make to earn some extra New Year's Eve spending money. If you don’t celebrate NYE anymore, sorry you're old, and I guess you’ll just get some extra cash for your gambling bankroll. Now, let’s jump into the bets.
Las Vegas Bowl: Texas A&M -3.5 vs. USC
This game is simple, the Trojans have been destroyed by the transfer portal while the Aggies have only been slightly weakened. USC has lost 19 players to the portal, including four offensive lineman, and two of their 5-star receivers: Zachariah Branch and Duce Robinson. Texas A&M on the other hand, are missing only three key defensive starters from a team that went 8-4 this year.
Teams that have been destroyed by the transfer portal struggle in their bowl games and that is what I expect to see from USC. They already had a weak OL; it’s now weaker. The Trojans already had a thin DL; it’s now thinner. I expect the Aggies to run all over the Trojans, and I expect Texas A&M to consistently get after the QB with a weak USC OL. If these teams were at full strength, I’d take the Aggies. Now I can get the Aggies with a depleted Trojans team. Seems like taking candy from a baby.
Texas A&M -3.5.
Pop-Tarts Bowl: Iowa State vs. Miami Over 56.5
I want points, points, and more points in this bowl game. Miami’s Heisman finalist QB Cam Ward announced that he will be playing in the bowl to try and end his college career with a win. Throughout the whole year, Ward has put the Hurricanes offense on his back, throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 36 passing touchdowns. At least 10 times this season, Ward has thrown for 300 yards and 3 TDs. Expect a big performance from Ward in his final collegiate football game.
On the flip side, Iowa State looks to take advantage of a weak Miami Hurricanes defense. Cyclones QB Rocco Becht has thrown for over 3,000 yards and has 22 passing TDs this year. The Hurricanes have struggled defensively all year, giving up more than 30 points five times this year! Not good Bob.
I expect points, points, and more points in this bowl game. A shootout in the Pop-Tarts Bowl just seems to fit, doesn’t it?
Iowa State/Miami over 56.5.
Alamo Bowl: BYU ML vs. Colorado & Over 54.5
Welcome to the battle for third place in the Big 12! Expect this game to be crazy, with two relatively evenly-matched teams, because both have a flare for some dramatics.
This game is going to be decided by BYU’s defense and Colorado’s offense. The Cougars defense has relied all year on being opportunistic in key spots and forcing turnovers. BYU is going to have to do that in San Antonio if they want any chance to win this football game. Now, the bright side is that Sanders has been sacked 39 times this season. If the Cougars can get that type of pressure, they will force turnovers and win this game.
Now, this game is a double dipper for your boy. I don’t expect BYU’s defense to completely stop the Buffaloes. No teams have been able to do it this year. On the flip side, I don’t expect Colorado's defense to get many stops against BYU’s offense. The Buffaloes struggle to stop the run and the Cougars love to run the ball to set up their play-action pass game. All good signs, pointing to an over hitting for us.
I know I’m getting risky, but I love the Cougars to pull out the upset and for the over to hit in the battle for Big 12’s bronze medal.
Cougars ML and over 54.5.
ReliaQuest Bowl: #11 Alabama -13.5 vs. Michigan
Michigan simply doesn't have the firepower to keep up with this Alabama team. Michigan still can’t throw a forward pass at QB. I expect Alabama to take out some of their college football playoff frustrations on this Michigan team to end their season. Michigan has a great interior DL, but they are weak on the edges. Bama will exploit this weakness and cruise to an easy victory. Roll Tide!
Alabama -13.5.
Finale
Betting the bowl games can be difficult, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find some money in the crumbs. I’ll be back before the playoff games with my best bets later this week. Happy Holidays my friends!
