For the most part, ranked teams and heavy favorites escaped last week’s college football schedule without becoming the victim of a serious upset. However, there were still a few surprises sprinkled in, and there are bound to be a few more this week as well. If you want to find an underdog that has a chance to spring an upset this week, here are some good candidates to consider.

Georgia Tech (5-3) +280 at Virginia Tech (4-3)

Let’s be clear, this upset is contingent on Haynes King playing. The Georgia Tech quarterback missed last week’s loss to Notre Dame, but he could be the difference-maker if he’s healthy enough to play on Saturday. Granted, the Yellow Jackets have struggled to beat quality teams on the road this season. But the Hokies have been unconvincing at times and don't have a quarterback who can carry them the way King does for Georgia Tech. If King plays, Virginia Tech should be on upset alert.

#24 Navy (6-0) +375 vs. #12 Notre Dame (6-1)

This is turning into a special season for Navy, so the Midshipmen have to be considered a candidate to beat Notre Dame for just the second time since 2010. Navy is 6-0 on the season, and other than a win over Memphis, the Midshipmen have been stout defensively. To be fair, Notre Dame has responded nicely from that dreadful loss to Northern Illinois early in the season. But they also haven’t been challenged much since that game. Navy quarterback Blake Horvath is putting together a fine season and proving that he’s a capable passer. That could make the Midshipmen worth a flier in this matchup.

Texas Tech (5-3) +200 at TCU (4-3)

Other than being on the road or last week’s abysmal defensive effort against Baylor, it’s hard to understand why Texas Tech is such a big underdog in this game. Obviously, the Red Raiders have some defensive problems. But the Texas Tech offense is one of the most balanced and consistent units in the country. Behren Morton has 17 touchdown passes and just three interceptions this year. He has a supportive running game and good receiving talent around him. They will have no problem getting into a shootout with a TCU team that’s been up and down all season and suffered home losses to Houston and UCF. The Horned Frogs also allowed 62 points in a loss to SMU. In what figures to be a high-scoring affair, the Red Raiders have more than enough firepower to come out on top.

New Mexico (3-4) +170 at Colorado State (4-3)

The Colorado State offense just isn’t good enough to keep getting away with close wins. A lackluster passing game is only going to get worse with leading receiver Tory Horton out for the season. No one else on the roster has reached the 20-catch plateau seven games into the season. That figures to be a problem against a New Mexico team that’s won three in a row, scoring at least 50 points in all three of those games. Of course, the Colorado State defense will put up some resistance while the New Mexico defense hasn’t stopped anyone all season. But the Lobos have hit their stride and there is no doubt they can score enough points to get the best of Colorado State.
