2025 NFL Draft: Cam Ward Emerges as Favorite for First Overall Pick

Miami QB Cam Ward’s stellar season solidifies his position as the frontrunner for the 2025 NFL Draft’s top selection.

There’s been some odds movement among the 2025 NFL Draft prospects in contention to be selected first overall and no player has a better chance than Miami’s Cam Ward right now. Ward is the odds-on favorite at BetMGM and it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll be the first name called when the Tennessee Titans make their decision in April.

Ward’s odds are -210 on BetMGM and that number is up from his previous mark of -135 last week. He ranked second in the country in passing yards with 4,313 in his final collegiate season at Miami and led the nation with 39 passing touchdowns. The Titans drastically need a change under center after appearing to whiff on 2023 draftee Will Levis, and Ward’s dynamic playmaking might be the answer.

Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter is second on the leaderboard at +180. The Colorado star played both ways as a wide receiver and cornerback and has climbed draft boards in recent weeks. He could help out the league’s 27th ranked offense and solidify its 30th ranked scoring defense that actually gave up the second-fewest passing yards (3,014) in 2024. Opting for him in a quarterback-driven league would be surprising, though.

Fellow Buffalo Shedeur Sanders (+275) rounds out the top three. He was long mocked to go first overall but has lost some of his standing. He ranked fourth in college football with 4,134 passing yards last season and was only second to Ward with 37 passing touchdowns while completing a ridiculous 74% of his passing. He didn’t thrive against or beat elite defenses consistently in college, though.

All three of these players still have a chance to go first overall. The draft is months away. Evaluators can be swayed by workouts, interviews, and health ahead of April. Ward is in the driver seat and has an opportunity to keep separating himself from the competition in the meantime.
