If you’re not already eyeing props for Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, you should be. Not only is Achane coming off a massive performance against the Bills on Thursday Night Football, but head coach Mike McDaniel spent 2:46 answering a question about the running back's involvement in the offense during his Monday press conference.
McDaniel raved about how impressed he’s been with Achane’s work ethic and production through the first two weeks of the season.
“It’s hard not to give guys opportunities that really are thirsting for the ball and are doing something with it, so it’s to his credit,” McDaniels told reporters. “All he’s done is given more reasons to get him the ball.”
The second-year player got the ball quite a bit against Buffalo, finishing with 22 carries for 96 yards, complementing a perfect 7-for-7 day as a receiver for 69 yards and a touchdown.
His increase in carries from Week 1 to Week 2 was partly a result of fellow running back Raheem Mostert missing last week's matchup with the Bills due to a chest injury suffered in Week 1. Mostert is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, but reports suggest he’ll be out another week.
In Week 3, the Dolphins will be facing a solid Seattle defense that is No. 1 in coverage, No. 2 in overall defense and No. 9 in run defense, according to PFF. They held the Broncos to just 231 total yards in Week 1 and gave up 310 yards to the Patriots in Week 2.
With Skylar Thompson taking over under center for the injured Tua Taguviloa, Miami's offense isn’t going to look as explosive as usual. Thompson has played in eight games in his NFL career but only has two starts which came back in 2022. His 57.1% career completion rate doesn’t give me much hope that we’ll see a successful passing game, which is why Achane will see another huge workload.
