College Basketball Betting Guide for Monday, March 3: Best Bets

Kansas vs. Houston & East Texas A&M vs. Houston Christian Picks

Kansas +10 at #4 Houston (-110, BetMGM)

The college basketball slate is pretty awful today outside of a few matchups, and even this one is lined as a blowout with a 10-point spread. Some places have moved down to +9.5, so grab the +10 if you can before it goes away. It opened at +10.5, so some sharp action has clearly been coming in on the Jayhawks early here, but the playable numbers are going to start going away soon. If it gets too much lower, you might consider betting on Houston.

At +10, I took a small shot on Kansas. This is a team that has really been disappointing this season, being ranked inside the top-10 in preseason polling, and now unranked with a 19-10 record. They are coming off a bad loss to Texas Tech at home, which was clearly a spot they were supposed to win and cover, but they underperformed yet again. They have lost three of their last five games and failed to cover in all three of those losses.

Houston has looked totally unstoppable as of late, winners in nine of their last 10 games, and a sterling 15-1 home record. They are 25-4 on the season and ranked No. 4 in the country, and will clearly be the better team entering this game. They are 16-13 ATS this season, but they have struggled to cover at home where spreads have been inflated, with just a 9-10 ATS record there. To be fair, Kansas has just a 5-7 ATS record on the road, and only covered in three of their last 10 games.

This isn’t a bet that I would be rushing to the counter to wager on, and there really isn’t one that stands out like that on this slate. However, at double-digits, I think the Jayhawks are worth a smaller play if you want some action to sweat out.

East Texas A&M +2.5 vs. Houston Christian (-110, BetMGM)

Yes, this is how terrible the slate is tonight. We are going to East Texas A&M for a small wager as they take on Houston Christian University. This line is very fishy considering the two teams, but again, you have to be careful today. The action is likely to be lower with no real marquee matchups to bring attention to the sport.

Houston Christian has lost four of their last five games, but have been a great covering team on the year, with a 19-9 ATS record. They are also 3-1 ATS as a favorite, and many people will like to see that. Still, this is a bad basketball team. They have won just three of their last 10 games, and have been atrocious on the road, with a 4-11 away record.

The Lions have been even worse, which is what makes this bet and line so disgusting. East Texas A&M have won just four games all season long, with a 4-26 record. They have lost eight of their last 10 games and sport a 3-10 home record. They also haven’t been great at covering spreads, with a 4-8-1 home ATS record and 13-15-2 ATS on the season overall. I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the very worst teams in the country.

So, a team with four wins all year is just a +2.5 underdog to a team that has won 12 games? That seems very odd, and generally, the Lions are going to win this game because of it.
