Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay had an emotional response when he learned this week that his teammates had voted him a captain.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts -- according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia -- "said Slay had to hold back tears when he learned he had been voted a captain." Hurts, also a captain, went on to say "that's a guy I want leading."
Slay, 31, is entering his third season with the Eagles, after spending the first seven years of his career as a member of the Detroit Lions. Slay was a first-team All-Pro in 2017, and was a Pro Bowler for the fourth time last season. With that resume, it's kind of hard to believe it's taken this long for Slay to be voted a captain.
In addition to Slay and Hurts, head coach Nick Sirianni announced Thursday that Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Lane Johnson and Jake Elliott had all been voted captains as well.
