Spike: Eagles will regret not making moves at trade deadline

The Eagles did not make any moves at the trade deadline, and Spike Eskin believes that will be a key topic of conversation in a couple months.

As other teams in the conference made moves, Spike says the Eagles’ lack of activity will be glaring when areas of need are exposed in the playoffs against the best of the best, and fans will be left wondering what the Birds could have done had they added pieces when they had the chance.

“I just sort of feel like we blew it,” Spike said. “Not the same, but similar position to one the Phillies were in at the deadline. Over the last few weeks, the Bills got better, the Lions got better, the Commanders got better, the Ravens got better, the Vikings got better, and we just sat there. We’re looking at an NFC where there is one team that we are all sure is better than the Eagles, and that is the Lions.

“The 49ers are having a step-back year, the Packers have been up and down, the Cowboys are having a step-back year for sure. The NFC looks like it’s there. The Eagles had to treat this year like a year that they had to go for it. I’m not saying trade the next five first-round picks, but there are certainly spots on the roster where they could have gotten better.”

Washington is Philly’s top competition in the NFC East, and addressed its biggest need by acquiring four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Other teams expected to contend for the NFC crown also made moves, but the Eagles did nothing, and Spike could see that coming back to bite them and being a turning point should Philly suffer another early playoff exit.

“I’m worried we’re gonna get to the playoffs and realize that we missed an opportunity this year,” Spike said.
