While many fans called in to The Morning Show to vent about the continued ups and downs of Aaron Nola on Monday, Joe DeCamara sprinkled in some positivity with the Phillies rotation by singing the praises of Zack Wheeler.
“Zack Wheeler has significantly outplayed his contract,” Joe said. “Zack Wheeler is one of the most underrated free agent additions in the history of Philadelphia sports.
“For all the times we talk about Pete Rose, Malcolm Jenkins, Troy Vincent, Ricky Watters, pick your guy…Zack Wheeler, that was a great signing.”
Wheeler has had his hiccups at times this season, pitching to a 4.05 ERA, but in his four years with the Phils, he holds a stellar 3.06 ERA, was an All-Star in 2021, and is on pace to eclipse 150 innings again in 2023, as he has every season with the Phillies, not including the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign.
All in all, his five-year, $118 million contract has been a steal.
