Quibi streaming service shuts down 7 months after launch

The streaming service Quibi launched just seven months ago, and after nearly $2 billion in start-up capital, it's officially shutting down. The service launched in April with a large catalog of content featuring major celebrities. This will put 200 employees out of work. Quibi had about 50 original titles at launch, including shows featuring Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, Chance the Rapper, Liam Hemsworth, Sophie Turner, Nicole Richie, and Reese Witherspoon. It also greenlit projects that cost a lot of money with Steven Spielberg, Anna Kendrick, Kevin Hart, and the Kardashians, to name some. The fate of these programs is still not known.

Matthew McConaughey turned down 14.5 million to do another romantic comedy

Matthew McConaughey has a lot of romantic comedies to thank for his fame during the 2010s, but after a decade starring in them, he's looking for other things. Matthew McConaughey said, “The romantic comedies remained my only consistent box office hits, which made them my only consistent incoming offers... For me personally, I enjoyed being able to give people a nitty-minute breezy romantic getaway from the stress of their lives where they didn’t have to think about anything, just watch the boy chase the girl, fall down, then get up and finally get her. I had taken the baton from Hugh Grant, and I ran with it.” He added that he “enjoyed making romantic comedies, and their paychecks rented the houses on the beach I ran shirtless on,” but when the time came to move on he didn't think twice about doing it. In fact, he even shared that he turned down a $14.5 million paycheck in 2010 to make another rom-com movie!
