According to USA Today, the WHO (World Health Organization) has now labeled video game addiction as an "official mental health disorder."
The organization which is headquartered in Geneval, Switzerland has now added "gaming disorder" to their International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, also known as ICD-11. It officially goes into effect in January of 2022.
They have it listed in their global medical guide along with "gambling disorder."
Others aren't necessarily going along with the declaration though.
The American Psychiatric Association is one of those, stating that there is currently not enough evidence to label a gaming addiction as a "unique mental disorder."
