All work and no play makes Lzzy go a little stir-crazy. Such is the case for each and every one of us as we maneuver through our personal and work lives, managing finances, physical health, children, parents, and all of life's many complexities.

LISTEN NOW: Halestorm on balancing work with play

Finding a good balance between work and play -- which could mean any number of activities or hobbies, like painting or photography in the case of Halestorm band members Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger -- or simply finding time to get outside for long walks are just some of the ways they have been keeping their mental health in check on and off the road.

"We spend a lot of time as bandmates together, and so every day off we'll do something," Lzzy told us backstage during this year's Aftershock Festival. "Like yesterday we were in L.A., and me, and Josh, and Joe went to go try and do a little retail therapy, full Alice Cooper-style." The experience, she admits, is less stressful than when she goes shopping with her female friends, who she sometimes feels pressure to purchase things. Adding that with her male bandmates, "I'm the one sitting on the couch in the dressing room!"

"We like to get out," Joe agrees. "We're going to Europe in November... We just go hiking, city hiking, see what we can get... bring a camera, soak it up wherever we are."
