Maren Morris has always been one to speak up regarding issues surrounding mental health and now, she’s sharing the different ways she practices what she preaches to ensure her own mental wellness.

In support of Audacy’s I’m Listening initiative, an effort to encourage individuals dealing with mental health issues, Maren shared some of the ways she practices self-care and enforces boundaries to keep a healthy state of mind.
“My husband and I have been coking a lot, which started in quarantine but has carried over and I love it,” she shared of her new-found hobby. “I used to only be able to make a fried egg and now, I truly do love being in the kitchen and I love chopping vegetables. Just the routine of it is kind of meditative for me.”
Music is also a way to cope with stressful times for Maren (no surprise there), but what may be surprising to fans is the music Maren turns to when she needs a break.
“I, for some reason, cannot disconnect or relax if there’s music with lyrics,” Maren shared. I think it’s the songwriter in me. I just always have to listen to what the person is saying.”

She continued, “I love Classical music because it is beautiful, it feels very old world and other worldly but also I can zone out to it and just relax.”
While she clearly has many ways to nurture her mental health, in a spotlight as bright as Maren’s, haters are inevitable which requires her to keep perspective while on social media and also take frequent breaks.
“I think we are social creatures, but not to the extent that social media addicts us to and asks us to be attached to,” she said. “Social media breaks are a big one for me. Not aimlessly scrolling for hours. Kind of monitoring my screen time when I can.”
She continued, “I think taking healthy breaks from it, knowing that everyone’s doing the exact same thing — you’re not missing out — there’s no FOMO [fear of missing out]. Everyone’s just posting them looking cute and it’s their highlight reel. I think keeping that in perspective and not comparing.”
