Chicago is famous for dumping dye into the river to turn it green every year for St. Patrick's Day.  White Rock Lake fashioned a similar hue over the weekend, but it wasn't due to dye, it was sewage.

According to the Dallas Morning News, a mechanical failure at a Plano water station resulted in 1.5 million gallons of sewage being dumped into White Rock Lake before it was ultimately repaired Saturday.

Authorities say they are monitoring the creek and aquatic life but haven't seen any damage so far.

Apparently, a lift station near 5510 West Plano Parkway flooded, leading to the shorting of motors and electrical systems.

Plano officials estimated roughly 500 gallons of sewage were flowing into the creek per minute, though it did not affect the city's water supply, which remains safe to drink and use.
