t’s not just football dominating the competition at Carroll Senior High School.
The Dragon Jazz band just earned a coveted invitation to the Essentially Ellington competition in New York, which is often referred to as the “Super Bowl of Jazz competitions.”
According to WFAA, out of the hundreds of that submit recordings, only 20 bands get selected to travel to New York. There is no current ranking of jazz bands statewide or nationally, but band director David Lown would put this current group at the top in the state.
The Essentially Ellington Festival is being held at the Lincoln Center in New York. It begins Thursday, and the band is expected to perform on Saturday.
