Muertos Fest is an annual event in San Antonio celebrating el Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives by displaying their pictures, favorite items, and food on an altar.
Per MySA.com, at Muertos Fest, people are encouraged to construct these altars, or ofrendas, paying tribute to their loved ones. However, some folks decided to go in a different direction.
At this year's festival the late Paul Reubens' character Pee-Wee Herman was honored with five separate altars featuring characters and items from his iconic Saturday morning show, Pee-wee's Playhouse.
The official Pee-Wee Herman Instagram posted pictures of the altars calling them a "stunning tribute."
Reubens passed away July 30 at age 70 after a long fight with cancer.
