Long time Coen Brothers' composer claims the directors may never work together again

Joel Coen's solo directorial debut 'The Tragedy of Macbeth' will be released later this year

When film aficionados discuss the greatest directors of all-time, the Coen Brothers are often mentioned among the many names. The tandem of Joel and Ethan Coen has led a number of beloved films over the years; such as, 'Fargo,' 'The Big Lebowski,' 'No Country for Old Men,' and many more.
However, according to the Brothers' long-time composer, Carter Burwell, the brothers may never work together again.

With Joel Coen set to make his solo directorial debut later this year with 'The Tragedy of Macbeth,' many fans have wondered why Ethan Coen isn't a part of the project. According to Burwell, there is no bad blood between the brothers, though they do seem ready to go their separate ways career wise. "Ethan just didn't want to make movies anymore. Ethan seems very happy doing what he's doing, and I'm not sure what Joel will do after this."

The composer went on to say that the brothers still have a number of scripts on the shelf, and he hopes one day they "get back to those." For now, the brothers are working separately, with Joel Coen's 'The Tragedy of Macbeth' expected to be released via Apple and A24 later this year, according to NME. For fans of the Coen Brothers, this officially marks the end of an era.
