Dallas hotel's Pegasus statue in danger of falling off roof

The Dallas City Council recently approved over $350,000 to repair and stabilize the statue

There are many great historical landmarks throughout DFW, but none quite like the Pegasus statue that sits on top of the Magnolia Hotel. The iconic Pegasus statue has greeted those coming through downtown Dallas for nearly 90 years. However, now the statue is in danger of falling off the roof, and city officials are doing whatever it takes to make sure the statue stays put.

Dallas city officials sent out a warning this week about Magnolia Hotel's Pegasus statue potentially falling from the roof. According to Dallas Morning News, the 90-year-old steel base for the 15-ton sign has corroded, which is causing the danger. Luckily, the Dallas City Council recently approved close to $358,000 to repair and stabilize the base, along with fixing the corrosion on a rooftop crane needed to get to the sign and replace missing neon lights.

Sadly, high winds in recent weeks have prevented the city from repairing the sign as they hope to get to it before it falls. "We own it today, we're responsible for it today," said Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax.
The statue has been on top of the Magnolia Hotel since 1934, though the original was replaced and now sits in front of the Omni Hotel. Hopefully the Pegasus statue is repaired soon, or else there may be another Pegasus on ground level.
