A seafood wholesaler from Dallas has been fined $250,000 for falsifying the country of origin of its salmon.
According to FOX 4, between January 2020 and February 2022 Seafood Supply Co. falsely labeled Chilean salmon as being from Scotland and other European countries. Prosecutors said that this allowed the company to market less expensive Chilean salmon as higher-value European product.
This practice was actually a violation of the Lacey Act, which requires accurate labeling of imported fish and other wildlife products.
Seafood Supply Co. pled guilty in March to two counts of violating the Lacey Act, and were fined $250,000 in federal court.
