There are many who remember exactly what they were doing in 1986 during the NASA space shuttle Challenger tragedy. It has become one of the most discussed moments in American history, yet somehow something new was recently discovered from that day 36 years ago. A group of divers off the coast of Florida recently unearthed a piece of debris that NASA has now confirmed is indeed from the Challenger.

While diving in search of wreckage from a World War II-era aircraft for a History Channel documentary about the Bermuda Triangle, a group of divers found something on the ocean floor they weren’t expecting. The team found a large object covered partially by sand that was clearly manmade. According to Dallas Culture Map, the team contacted NASA after analyzing the proximity to the Florida Space Coast, the item’s construction, and the 8-inch square tiles.
