Over the last few years, a number of businesses have decided to pack things up and move from California to Texas. Now, yet another company is moving from the west coast to the Lone Star state, but this one comes with a big name attached to it. Elon Musk announced this week that Tesla’s headquarters will officially move to Texas, completing a move that has been a year in the making.
Back in 2020, Elon Musk teased a potential move to Texas for his Tesla headquarters. While many believed this was another case of Musk being an internet troll, the move was made official this week. Musk announced at his company’s shareholders meeting that the Tesla headquarters will move to Austin, Texas. According to Musk, the move is about the "limit to how big you can scale in the Bay area."
According to CNN, the current Tesla headquarters are located in Palo Alto, California. Musk cited housing affordability and commute time as reasons for the move. With this move, Texas continues to grow.
