A Denton County man is recovering after suffering near-fatal bites from a highly venomous cottonmouth snake.
46-year-old Jeremy Sons is known in the county for dressing as Spider-Man and visiting children in hospitals, a practice he started during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sons and his wife were on their property searching for animals when he was bitten twice by the snake. Sons told FOX 4he was reaching under a log when the bites happened. "I pulled the snake off. My arm and all I saw were these big, huge fangs."
Sons is currently recovering at a Fort Worth ICU. He's been administered at least 30 vials of anti-venom, though the swelling in his right arm remains severe.
Sons doesn’t hold any ill-will toward the snake, though. "It wasn't the snake's fault. I'm the one that made the mistake," he said. "The snake was just doing what God made it do. So I don't hold it against that dang gum snake for biting me."
Sons will undergo another round of surgery once the swelling in his arm goes down.
