Everybody in North Texas knows what it means to play under those Friday Night Lights. It’s a lot of pressure for players, coaches, and officials as well.
It seems the pressure became too much for one high school referee in Dallas, who appeared to rip the helmet off a player in the middle of a game between the Whitney Wildcats and the James Madison Trojans.
The player was thrown out of the game after having his helmet ripped off buy the referee.
Joey O'Hearn, a coach on for the Whitney Wildcats posted on X that he was proud of the player for “keeping his composure” during the incident.
The referee has not been identified.
The UIL said in a statement per CBS News that it is aware of "an incident involving a sports official and a student athlete during the Whitney vs. Dallas Madison varsity football game last night (Friday, 9/29). This situation is of great concern to us and we are actively looking into the matter.”
