Congratulations, Galveston, you are officially a Guiness World record holder.
The city just claimed the record for the “longest walkway” in the world, in an event that remembered part of the city’s most tragic history.
According to KHOU 11, this past Saturday on September 6, thousands of people gathered to form a human link on the Seawall, as part of a “living tribute to the resilience of the island and the more than 8,000 lives lost in the Great Storm of 1900.”
The event marked the 125th anniversary of the hurricane.
A representative from Guinness World Records confirmed that Galveston's Seawall was the longest in the world at 10.3 miles.
