Last week, Keller High School's softball team traveled to Midland to take on El Paso Eastwood in the 6A playoffs.
The first game was a tight 1-0 victory for the Indians on Thursday. When the team woke up Friday morning, they discovered all of the equipment on their charter bus had been stolen overnight!
Jessica Pauls, Keller's assistant softball coach, told FOX 4, "All of our stuff was gone. All 18 softball bags, softballs, tees, nets, buckets of balls, our athletic training equipment, all the bat bags had two bats, two gloves."
In total, the team had thousands of dollars worth of equipment stolen from them.
Thanks to the acts of the generous Midland community, the Keller Indians got some replacement equipment before their game, which they proceeded to win!
And the victory on the field was joined by a victory off of it, as police called the team on the way back home to inform them their equipment had been recovered! Pauls said, "Almost all of the equipment was found on the side of the highway. A lot of the bats were damaged, unfortunately. They just like tossed them out a window on the highway ."
The Indians are now gearing up for their Regional Quarterfinal matchup against Eaton, which begins with a game this Thursday.
