You probably have been to a home chock full of war memorabilia and mementos from a military enthusiast's service days.  We'd hope any of the weapons on display have been deactivated and safe for collecting.

Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case at a home in Duncanville.

A homeowner called Duncanville police yesterday reporting of a mysterious object he uncovered while digging in his backyard.  According to the Dallas Morning News, the man told the police that it was a "missile-shaped object."

The homeowner, along with several of his neighbors were told to evacuate immediately so the bomb squad could investigate.

Turns out, the object was a "live artillery shell," most likely a remnant of the previous homeowner who was a U.S. Veteran, and likely "buried the artillery shell years ago."

Thankfully, the authorities believed the shell to not be a threat to the public, and everyone was allowed to return home.  It's unclear if the shell was removed from the property.
