Usually anytime someone sees something odd in the sky, the first thing they think is aliens. However, this weekend there will be an explanation for all the flashing lights shooting across the night sky, as the biggest meteor shower of 2023 is set to take place. Luckily for people in North Texas, there are plenty of great spots to get a good view of the spectacle.
The Perseid meteor shower will light up the sky this weekend, as conditions are expected to be perfect for visibility of the biggest meteor shower of the year. According to Dallas Culture Map, the meteor shower will be most visible the night of Saturday, August 12 until the early morning of Sunday, August 13. State parks and communities throughout Texas are planning star gazing events, including some in DFW.
Cooper Lake State Park, Dinosaur Valley State Park, and Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway are all planning events for the meteor shower. Lakewood Village at Lake Lewisville was ranked the 23rd International Dark Sky Community in September 2019, and while there is no official watch party, many will be hitting the neighborhood to get a glimpse of the show. For North Texans, this is a meteor shower they won’t want to miss.
