As Rick Donoghue was making his way back home to Lewisville following a vacation in Florida, he knew roads would be bad due to the winter storm.
He didn’t anticipate just how bad they would be.
Donoghue and his wife got trapped on I-20 trying to return home, where they waited for hours….and hours….and hours.
He told NBC DFW, “We came to a stop and put it in park. Then that's where it just began. I mean, literally nothing happened for a solid eight hours.”
Donoghue estimated there were probably 300 people stuck on the highway, and after eight hours of waiting, said that the traffic “just kind of started moving.”
From now on, he says he’ll be more prepared in case something like this happens again.
“But reflecting on it, everyone always tells you be prepared, have warm blankets and water and food when you're going on a trip, and you never think it can happen to you, but it happened to us and I would have never thought it would happen to us,” he said.
