An angler has been arrested after he was caught cheating and adding weights to a fish caught during a tournament in North Texas.

Officials noticed something fishy about the bass presented by fisherman Curtis Lee Daniels during the Lake Fork Lure Company Tournament this past Sunday.

Upon inspection, they found that Daniels added three weights into the fish’s stomach, violating fishing tournament law.

Subsequently, Daniels was arrested, and since the prize amount for the tournament exceeded $10,000, the charge is a third-degree felony.

Per FOX 4, Daniels had previously won two hourly prizes totaling $2,500.

Tournament organizers thanked the wardens for their help on Facebook writing:

"Maintaining fairness and integrity in competitive fishing is incredibly important to us, and we greatly appreciate the diligence and attention you gave to this matter. Your efforts help protect the reputation of the sport and ensure that honest anglers can compete on a level playing field.”
