The Rowlett Police Department has seized more than 62,000 counterfeit luxury items with an estimated value of $101 million following a tip that these counterfeit items were being sold on Facebook Live.
According to WFAA, on February 17, Rowlett police arrested Orlando Gonzalez Marcella and seized 62,694 pieces of suspected counterfeit merchandise, about $208,000 and a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.
Had the items been legit, they would be worth more than $101.6 million and hold an estimated street value of about $995,276.
Marcella has been charged with trademark counterfeiting more than $300,000, a first-degree felony, and is currently in the Dallas County Jail.
Rowlett Chief Michael Denning said in a statement, “Counterfeiting is not a victimless crime.
"Operations like this deceive consumers, harm legitimate businesses, and often fund broader criminal activity."
