A North Texas man only identified as Jack lived out every gamer's dream. In 1999, Jack found sheets of trading cards from games like Pokémon and Magic the Gathering in a dumpster.
Jack held onto the cards, only getting them appraised in 2023 after all of his emergency funds were stolen from his van.
Like most folks, Jack wasn't aware just how valuable these cards were. In fact, some of the cards in his possession were among the first ever printed in the United States, which can sometimes go for tens of thousands of dollars a card!
Jack sold a couple of those cards he happened to find in a dumpster and was able to recoup his losses. He also donated some of the earnings, $10,000 of earnings, of the sale to local nonprofit Texans on Mission, which provides disaster relief to communities across the country devastated by natural disasters.
Jack told WFAA, "I told God I'm going to try to be right with the money. (Texans on Mission) are doing the right kind of stuff."
