The city of Arlington originally spent $325 million to help the Cowboys build AT&T Stadium. Now, they considering spending another $273 million to keep them.
According to WFAA, next week the Arlington City Council will consider contributing up to $273 million to upgrade AT&T Stadium and keep the Dallas Cowboys there through 2055. The Cowboys’ current agreement with Arlington ends in 2038.
The proposal says that the City’s contribution would be funded by revenue generated through voter-approved venue taxes already in place from the 2004 Cowboys Complex Development Project and the 2016 Texas Rangers Complex Development Project.
However, it is unclear if residents will have a say in the matter in this referendum.
Along with the $273 million from the city, the Cowboys would contribute at least $750 million to improvements to AT&T Stadium.
