Coatimundi are incredibly rare, long-snouted mammals that few ever get the chance to see in public.

That is unless you just happen to be walking near Canyon Lake on a random Monday.

A man posted his encounter with a Coati on TikTok, explaining in the video, “I've spent a lot of time in the Hill Country, but I've never seen one of these. I don't know what this poor guy is."

According to Chron, White-nosed coatis are considered rare in Texas and are listed as a threatened species by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Thankfully, this Coati belonged to a family, and less than an hour after the Comal County Sheriff's Office's posted a picture of the animal online, the owners came to retrieve it.

The agency wrote, “We appreciate the community's assistance in helping us get this unique visitor safely back home.”
