DFW is home to many different species of birds, but as the seasons begin to change a new type of bird has started to pop up in the metroplex. As hummingbirds begin their migration south for the winter, many have stopped in town to see what DFW is all about. Now, people all across the metroplex are sharing photos and videos of swarms of hummingbirds throughout North Texas.
Every year, hummingbirds travel south for the winter in search of warmer weather, and luckily for North Texas, the metroplex is right in the middle of their migration path. The tiny birds have been spotted in parks, gardens and people’s yards, according to NBC DFW. “They're coming from Canada from Maine and going through the central flyway through Texas. So it's an exciting time to be a birder,” said Sam Kieschnick, an urban wildlife biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife.

While the occasional hummingbird sighting isn’t that rare in DFW, many have been surprised to see packs of birds traveling together, sometimes in the dozens. Sadly, the hummingbirds will eventually continue their travels south and leave DFW, so enjoy them while they are here. It’s better than some of the other visitors the metroplex has to deal with.
