Writing a message in a bottle has never been the most efficient form of communication, especially today with so many different ways to send a message. That was proven recently when a decades old message in a bottle was found in a Texas park. A cleanup crew at Highland Bayou Park in La Marque, Texas recently found the message and using modern technology was actually able to find the note’s author.

Members of the “Keep La Marque Beautiful Commission” recently removed more than 400 pounds of garbage from Highland Bayou Park during a cleanup event, and while most of the items went straight into the trash, there was one piece the group felt was worth keeping. The group found a message in a bottle that had been launched 27 years ago. According to UPI, the note included two phone numbers and four signatures, so the group took to social media to try and find the authors.

Eventually they came across Brian Standefer on Facebook, who claimed to be one of the authors. “I had to do a double take on the piece of cardboard. [I thought] that's my phone number. That's my handwriting. That's my signature," said Standefer. While the note didn’t include any important information, hopefully Standefer and his friends have found an easier way to communicate by now.
