“God works in mysterious ways” says Angela Maples of Granbury.  She knows that firsthand, as well.

Angela was experiencing kidney failure, and was reverted to peritoneal dialysis at home, more than a dozen hours a day, just to stay alive.

Then a kidney donor match came from the unlikeliest sources: her husband’s ex.

Angela and Amanda McCowen had met dozens of times due to Amanda and her ex, and Angela’s current husband, Joshua sharing custody of their two kids.

But Amanda wanted nothing to do with Angela.  Amanda told WFAA, “And it was very much - I'm not going to share my children with you. I don't care who you are. I don't care how good you are. She could have walked on water at that point.”

Amanda knew Angela was suffering, and just wanting to check, tested to see if she was a match.  And wouldn’t you know it she was the perfect match.  "God has a sense of humor," Amanda said. "God has an amazing sense of humor!"

The kidney transplant happened in October.  The pair, once enemies through circumstance, now share a bond that can’t be broken.

Angela said, “And what the running joke is before, she was the biological mother, but now, since I have her kidney, they are partially biologically mine now too because now share DNA.”

Amanda added, “It's quite literally a miracle. It is.”
