With Christmas come and gone, you probably have a stack of gift cards that you didn’t have before the holidays.

Before using them, you might just want to check they’re legit.

Three men were recently arrested in Garland for their participation in a gift card “cloning scam,” where they would steal unactivated gift cards from stores, copy the electronic numbers, and then re-seal and return the cards.

They would wait for those cards to be activated by an unsuspecting person, after which they would drain the card’s funds.

According to FOX 4, when the three criminals, Kristians Petrovskis, Romunds Cubrevics, and Nurmunds Ulevicus were apprehended, the Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center said they had some 400 gift cards in their possession amounting to $26,000.

Authorities believe this was just a fraction of the estimated $14 million the men are accused of stealing.

All three men are being held in Dallas County Jail.
