Last month, officials with McKinney Animal Services were called to an unspecified neighborhood after receiving reports of a lone bobcat on the loose.

The workers checked on the bobcat, which turned out to be just a kitten, and determined it was healthy and exhibiting normal behavior.

Later, cameras captured a grown bobcat retrieving the kitten and carrying it into a storm drain to escape incoming severe weather.

McKinney Animal Services said this is common behavior with bobcats.

Officials said in a statement per WFAA, “Bobcats are a natural part of McKinney's ecosystem, and sightings are not uncommon, particularly when rabbit populations are high,

“They often use drainage corridors to travel throughout an area because they provide safe passage away from roads, fences and people.”

The department advised residents on trying to coexist with the bobcats in their area, “Bobcats naturally prey on animals the size of rabbits, so cats should be kept indoors or supervised outdoors, and small dogs should not be left unattended outside.”
