Several posts have gone viral online claiming that Governor Greg Abbott signed a new bill into law that would outlaw tattoos in the state of Texas in 2028.
The posts claim that House Bill 1126, known as the “Health, Decency, and Welfare Act,” will make it unlawful for any person to “intentionally obtain or possess” a tattoo in the state of Texas beginning July 1, 2028.”
According to WFAA, this was by far the top statewide Google Trend in Texas on Saturday, but be assured that these claims are completely false.
First of all, Texas didn't have a legislative session in 2024 as the image indicates, and the image has been making the rounds in other states across the country too, with similar claims about tattoos being outlawed.
So no. Tattoos are not becoming illegal in Texas.
