An amazing amount of tributes have arrived following the passing of a true music legend -- David Johansen of the New York Dolls -- who passed at the age of 75 on Saturday, March 1, after revealing only weeks prior he had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Artists from across the musical spectrum have paused to honor Johansen -- who some may also know as the always “Hot, Hot, Hot,” Buster Poindexter -- since the news broke over the weekend.
Bruce Springsteen’s E Street guitarist “Little” Stevie Van Zandt honored Johansen, calling him “One of the most unique legends of our business and a very good friend. One of a kind.”
Singer Stephen Patrick Morrissey, who was at one time sitting president of the New York Dolls Fan Club, posted a photo of Johansen with the touching caption “All Hollow” on his official website on the day of his passing. Morrissey followed that post with another photo today honoring the New York Dolls, adding the lyrics to his own song, "Rebels Without Applause."
Billy Idol’s longtime guitarist, Steve Stevens wrote, “As a kid from Queens New York, this one hurts. Never about technique for New York rock and rollers. It was always about the sound of the subway, the stinking overflowing garbage cans, the misfits of Times Square. The Dolls did it to perfection.”
Pearl Jam’s Mike McCreedy shared a message on the band’s social media saying New York Dolls, “Were so ahead of their time. Too Much Too Soon indeed. They were very important to me and my friends in the early 80’s Seattle music scene. My band Shadow loved them and their wild clothes. They seemed free and dangerous while playing loud rock and roll. David Johansen at the helm - a singer with great attitude and Johnny Thunders on guitar were great templates for the young bands of Seattle in the early 80’s like Overlord, The Trids, Lipstick, Green River and of course Shadow. Check out “Personality Crisis,” “Trash” or “Jet Boy.” Rest in Glam, David Johansen.”
