68 million years ago, the Tyrannosaurus Rex ruled the land and was the world’s most dominant and terrifying predator.
Now could you imagine if a T-Rex could swim? How could those tiny arms even manage a breaststroke?
However, researchers from the American Museum of Natural History, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and Southern Methodist University have announced just that! They’ve discovered the fossil of a new species of T-Rex, but one that roamed the sea!
It’s named Tylosaurus rex, or T. rex for short, meaning "king of the Tylosaurus." It measured about 43 feet long and lived about 80 million years ago.
Amelia Zietlow, lead author of the study, told NBC DFW, “Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the mosasaurs, apparently.”
The specimen was first discovered in 1979 near Lake Ray Hubbard. It is currently on display at the Perot Museum.
