Back in March, the Arlington Fire Department was called to a house fire in south Arlington where a little girl was trapped inside.
11-year-old Delilah Salinas was rescued from dangers, but she spent more than a month in the hospital receiving treatment for the second and third degree burns on her face and arms.
After being released, the firefighters returned to the Salinas home to give her a ride to her first day back at school, which she wasn’t too thrilled about.
“No, not at all,” she told WFAA. She then revealed where she would’ve rather had the fire department take her: “McDonald’s.”
After her story first aired, McDonald’s surprised Delilah and her class with lunch, and even a surprise visit from Grimace.
And that’s when local McDonald’s franchisee Anthony Grissett surprised Delilah saying that if she does well in school, and works for McDonald’s one day, they would pay for her to go to college.
Delilah couldn’t believe it. “I have never had that happen before to me at all,” she said.
Though it could cost Grissett and McDonald’s a lot, he says it’s worth every penny. “It is more valuable than money,” he said. “It provides joy to satisfy people and that is my purpose.”
