SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – An Arkansas couple is desperately trying to recover their chihuahua who was stolen during their visit to San Francisco last month, according to multiple reports.

The couple on May 24 left their dog Rylee, an 8-month-old chihuahua, in their vehicle, a 2019 Toyota Sienna, parked in a public parking lot on Bay Street along the Embarcadero while the two women took a tour of Alcatraz.

They returned after approximately two hours at 4 p.m. to find the window smashed, and multiple belongings stolen including Rylee.

Amanda Chapman, the dog's owner who was visiting the city with her wife, told the San Francisco Chronicle they spent the next three days searching for Rylee, looking through the lot she was taken, Oakland and the Tenderloin, but could not find her.

The couple contacted San Francisco police, who according to Chapman told her that the lot she was parked in was notorious for car break-ins.

Chapman and her wife were forced to return to their Arkansas home without Rylee. The dog is described as gray with oversized ears, and was last seen wearing a rainbow-colored collar with a star shaped rabies badge and teal harness, the paper reported.

The incident remains under investigation, police have confirmed to KCBS Radio. Anyone with information is asked to call 415-575-4444 or text TIP411.
