During the speech, Biden is expected to touch on the latest slew of mass shootings across the country, including the recent tragedy California, and the role big tech plays when it comes to our privacy and kids.

"It's been devastating, to be honest. It's personal, it's really concerning," Alice Linsmeier told KCBS Radio, speaking on the recent mass shooting in Half Moon Bay.

Linsmeier is a board member with the Half Moon Bay social service nonprofit Ayudando Latinos a Soñar. ALAS executive director, Dr. Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga, will be in attendance at the State of the Union as a guest of congresswoman Anna Eshoo.

After the mass shooting at two mushroom farms where seven people were killed and one was injured, ALAS lent a hand to farmworkers. "People came out and brought lunches to the workers at lunch time and brought blankets after the flooding that happened, etc…," Linsmeier said. "The first thing that the farmworkers said was 'no one sees us.'"

ALAS is optimistic that the national spotlight may change this blind spot. "The hope is that out of this tragedy people will take better action for healthier conditions for housing and wages and mental health," Linsmeier explained.

On the tech front, Biden is expected to call on both parties to create new legislation to protect privacy.

According to a recent poll, Biden's approval rating is holding steady at about 45%. You can hear the State of the Union address live on KCBS Radio at 6 p.m. this evening.
