The California Highway Patrol is investigating a second pedestrian death from a 24-hour span on southbound I-680.

Officials said a driver hit and killed a pedestrian in San Jose, south of Berryessa Road, around 8:40 p.m. before driving off. Officers closed all southbound lanes for four hours while they investigated the scene, after finding the pedestrian dead, lying in the freeway.

Southbound lanes reopened at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Just shy of a day before lanes reopened in San Jose, an SUV struck and killed a woman as she walked from the right shoulder to the center divider on southbound I-680 in San Ramon.

The woman was hit and 12:55 a.m. just north of Bollinger Canyon Road on Monday, and officers pronounced her dead on the scene.
The SUV driver was still there when officers arrived.

Meanwhile, officials have not yet released a description of the San Jose suspect's vehicle.

The victim's identity has not been released due to pending positive identification and notification of the family.

Officials asked anyone with information regarding either incident to contact them at the California Highway Patrol's Dublin office by calling 925-828-0566.
