After the Cache Fire tore through Lake County, a woman who lost everything has found comfort from her community.

On Aug. 18, Anna Brin, a mother of three, ventured outside her Clearlake home to check the air quality when she discovered that the Cache Fire was burning across the street.

"It was completely engulfed in flames so close to me. I knew I had to get out of there immediately with my daughters," she told KCBS Radio. "I didn’t grab anything, I just was worried about us living."

As they fled, the Cache Fire ripped through the community, destroying four dozen properties including her own.

In the days that have followed, Brin said she’s found overwhelming support from the community.

"All day long I have people sending me messages, checking on me, and that really has made me feel not alone in this," she said.

For now, Brin is focused on providing for her daughters and finding a new place to call home.

"I guess I sort of have just been taking things one step at a time, just trying to figure out how to restart my life," she said.

A GoFundMe to help Brin buy clothing, food and household goods has raised upwards of $10,000.
