On Saturday night at the First Presbyterian Church in Castro Valley, a driver hit a 77-year-old woman who was pushing a walker in the church parking lot.

According to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, the suspect may have brushed against the victim, causing her to yell at him. The suspect yelled back, turned the vehicle around, and then intentionally drove into her.

The victim was knocked onto the car's hood before falling to the ground. Fortunately, the injuries the victim sustained were non-life-threatening.

She was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The victim is unhoused, and the church offers its sanctuary as a safe place to sleep at night.

"I think it's terrible that somebody would go to that length – just to run somebody over – over a petty argument," said Greg Combs, a friend of the victim. "Probably all it was was just a misunderstanding. She's the nicest lady in the world."

The hit-and-run driver is only identified as African American, driving a late model, white Nissan Sentra, with an unknown license plate.

Anyone with information about the driver is asked to contact the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
