Family of missing teen announces $25K reward, renews call for information

Six months after their daughter first went missing, the family of former UC Berkeley student Sydney West, 19, is announcing a new reward of $25,000 for information that leads to her return.

West was last seen on September 30 at about 6:45 a.m. on the Golden Gate Bridge and there has been no activity on her phone, bank account, credit cards or social media since then.

"As six months passes where we have not seen or heard from Sydney, it becomes increasingly painful," said her parents Jay and Kimberly West in a statement. "Holidays and milestones come and go while we continue to feel Sydney's absence continuously. We remain hopeful that someone knows something that will be helpful in finding her."

West is a former Foothill High School student who had moved to North Carolina with her family, before returning to the Bay Area in the fall of 2020 to attend UC Berkeley.

Police have reviewed security camera footage from the bridge, but it was a foggy morning and many of the views were obstructed.

The family hopes that one of the many people who were also on the bridge that morning saw something and can help.

"We hope that this time the right tip’s gonna come in and help us find Sydney," said Kimberly West.

According to San Francisco police, Sydney "is considered at risk due to depression." She is described as a white female, 5'10" and weighing about 130 pounds with light brown/blonde hair and blue eyes.

While police initially reported she was last seen wearing a sweatshirt, dark-colored shorts and blue Vans sneakers, the family’s website states that she was wearing long dark leggings, a teal hoodie sweatshirt and Vans slip on sneakers with a blue/green tropical print. Her hair was in a bun and she may have been wearing glasses.

The family has also launched a new website with information, fliers and photos of Sydney.
