The Alameda County Sheriff's Office bomb squad has confirmed that a suspicious bag left Friday at a hotel in Fremont was not a bomb.

The Hyatt Place Hotel has reopened to guests who were evacuated because of the reported bomb threat, and the offramp on I-880 southbound at Warren Ave has reopened.

Varun Suresh, a 24-year-old Fremont resident, has been booked at the Santa Rita Jail for making a false bomb threat, criminal threats and burglary, according to Fremont Police.

Fremont Police told KCBS Radio that they received the first report from hotel management at about 8:40 a.m.

"The caller let us know that a male had dropped off a suspicious backpack or bag and then told the staff that there was a bomb threat and then left," said Geneva Bosques, spokesperson with Fremont Police.

"So immediately the management team went into action and began evacuating the hotel. My understanding is about 70 to 80 people were very quickly safely evacuated," she said.

The man, who is "known to police," was found "not too far from the hotel by patrol officers," Fremont Police tweeted.

This is happening at the same hotel where a deadly officer-involved shooting happened on Thursday night. Officials said there isn't any information at this time linking to the two events.
